Become an expert

The Alps Surgery Institute (ASI) is an orthoplastic surgery center specializing in limb reconstruction, located in Annecy, France. Founded in 2005 by Dr. Laurent Lafosse, ASI was initially established as an educational hub focused on shoulder surgery.

Today, the institute is chaired by Dr. Thibault Lafosse, although Dr. Laurent Lafosse remains actively involved, contributing as a surgeon, educator, researcher, and co-organizer of numerous educational courses and live surgery events.

At ASI, we believe that our core values rest on three fundamental pillars:

1. The care we provide to our patients.
2. The training we offer to fellow surgeons.
3. The research we conduct to better understand our patients’ conditions, allowing us to continuously adapt and stay at the forefront of innovation.

While our surgical expertise primarily focuses on the upper limb, particularly shoulder and hand surgeries, Dr. Thibault Lafosse has expanded his practice to include brachial plexus, peripheral nerve, and microvascular reconstructive surgeries. ASI handles many complex cases, ranging from trauma to microvascular muscle transplantation aimed at restoring upper and lower limb function thanks to Dr Thibault LAFOSSE and Dr Michael BOUYER’s collaboration (please visit PBMA website for more information).

ASI’s success is made possible by the dedication of many key contributors. Dr. Laurent Lafosse and Babeth Lafosse have been at the helm since its inception, overseeing daily operations and managing the fellowship programs and educational courses. Miss Lydie Reisenthel serves as the practice manager for both Dr. Laurent and Dr. Thibault Lafosse, while also managing the fellows and their research assistants.

The fellowship program at ASI offers opportunities for both short-term observers (less than three months) and long-term participants, who are actively involved in daily activities, whether in the operating theater, clinics, or research. Several fellowship programs are available and vary from clinical to research fellowships.

Dr. Alexander Buijze and Dr. Agathe Kling are integral members of the organizational committee. They are not only skilled surgeons but also educators, guiding the fellows as they rotate among the various surgeons at ASI: view the full team PBMA website.

Every two years, ASI hosts a live surgery event that attracts surgeons from around the globe. This event plays a vital role in advancing patient care and fostering a community of continuous learning and innovation: www.lafosseshoulder-annecy.com.

Finally, ASI benefits from the support of several industrial partners, who dedicate their time and resources to organizing courses, educational programs, and training for surgeons worldwide.

” The 3 days courses were pretty intense and having the opportunity to rewatch the videos is a real benefit!

We sometimes didn’t get all the subtilities of a specific move while being present during the surgery. Surgerical acts are getting more complex every year and being able to access those replays is one of the best way to apply the treatment to the patient.”
John Smith, ASI Fellow
